Teens, join us on Saturday, February 15 at 2:00 PM to discuss Orange, Volume 1 by Ichigo Takano and The Arrival by Shaun Tan.
Orange, Volume 1: On the day that Naho begins 11th grade, she receives a letter from herself ten years in the future. At first, she writes it off as a prank, but as the letter's predictions come true one by one, Naho realizes that the letter might be the real deal.
Her future self tells Naho that a new transfer student, a boy named Kakeru, will soon join her class. The letter begs Naho to watch over him, saying that only Naho can save Kakeru from a terrible future. Who is this mystery boy, and can Naho save him from his destiny?
The Arrival: A wordless graphic novel depicting the story of a man who leaves his wife and child in an impoverished town, seeking better prospects in an unknown country on the other side of a vast ocean. He eventually finds himself in a bewildering city of foreign customs, peculiar animals, curious floating objects and indecipherable languages.
With nothing more than a suitcase and a handful of currency, the immigrant must find a place to live, food to eat and some kind of gainful employment. He is helped along the way by sympathetic strangers, each carrying their own unspoken history: stories of struggle and survival in a world of incomprehensible violence, upheaval and hope.
Enjoy Japanese snacks as you watch the anime, Orange.
