Morgan, who is part of the team behind the 30-acre greenhouse operation of Bob’s Market, will share expert tips and gardening insights to create and maintain a raised bed garden. Anyone from the beginning gardener to the seasoned vegetable grower is welcome and encouraged to attend to learn more about soil preparation, plant selection, and more, just in time for the spring planting season. This event is free and open to anyone with an interest. Beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, Bossard Library will launch its “Food For Thought” Cookbook Club featuring the book Life’s Too Short to Stuff a Mushroom: Really Good Food Without Fuss by Prue Leith, chef and judge of the Great British Baking Show. Attendees are encouraged to review the book and try a recipe at home to discuss during the event. Borrow a copy of the cookbook from the library or read a digital copy via Libby or hoopla. During the event, attendees can discuss the cookbook and its recipes, and will also enjoy a demonstration and sample recipes from the book. This program is for anyone age 18 and over. Trivia Night Ages 13 and over Come out for Trivia Night and compete as an individual or play with your friends to test your knowledge of current events, science, history, pop culture, and more! Trivia night is open to teens, adults, and families with children who are age 13 and over. The winning individual or team will receive a nominal prize and bragging rights! Light refreshments will be provided. Youth Services Programs Adult Programs In-B-Tween Club Ages 7-9 The first In-B-Tween Club meeting of the month will feature a reading of Duck, Duck Taco Truck by Laura Lavoie with illustrations by Teresa Martínez. This meeting will serve as the next “Thinking Money for Kids” session. The second In-B-Tween Club meeting in April will feature a reading of How to Party Like a Snail by Naseem Hrab with illustrations by Kelly Collier. Attendees will get to complete water color snails. The In-BTween Club is for any interested child, ages 7-9, and their parents or caregivers. Each meeting features a book, a craft, and games all centered around a fun and engaging theme. Teen Book Club Ages 13-18 The Teen Book Club will meet in April to discuss Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer. Copies of the book can be borrowed from the library. The eBook can be found on hoopla, while the eBook and digital audiobook can be borrowed from the Ohio Digital Library via the Libby app. Bossard Library’s Teen Book Club meets every other month at the library and is for any interested reader, ages 13-18. Spring Book Sale Civil War Book Club The Civil War Book Club will discuss Be Free or Die: The Amazing Story of Robert Smalls’ Escape from Slavery to Union Hero by Cate Lineberry in April. The eBook and digital audiobook are available on the hoopla app. The Civil War Book Club is moderated by Gene Huffman of the Cadot-Blessing Camp No. 126 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and typically meets quarterly at the library. French City Writers’ Guild Ages 18 and over Both budding and experienced writers are encouraged to stop by the library to attend the monthly meeting of the French City Writers’ Guild. Writers are encouraged to discuss their original works of various genres, including nonfiction, poetry, genre fiction, and drama. Guild meetings are only for those age 18 and over. Coloring sheets and coloring gel pens/pencils will be provided or you can bring your own. Bring a friend and enjoy a relaxing coloring session and genial conversation. “Color Me Happy” is only for adults ages 18 and over. No children are permitted. Weekly Programs Storytime Ages 3-6 Join us each Monday morning for storytime. Each program features stories, songs, and crafts with engaging and educational themes for children. Yoga Ages 16 and over An hour-long Yoga session is held each Monday evening in the Riverside Room with a certified Yoga instructor. Please bring your own Yoga mat or beach towel (a few mats are available on site) and wear comfortable clothing. Waiver form required. Pat-a-Cake Lapsit Ages birth-3 The library presents stories, rhymes, and songs with fun and engaging themes for the youngest of readers and their parents or caregivers each Wednesday morning. Needlework Circle Ages 12 and over Anyone with an interest in fiber art is welcome and encouraged to attend Needlework Circle each Wednesday afternoon at the library. Share your love of fiber art with like-minded community members. Anyone with an interest in learning to knit, crochet, or complete other fiber art is also encouraged to attend. ‘Game on!’ Game Day Saturday Ages 12 and over (under 12 with an adult) Bring a friend and stop by the library for Game Day. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Bring your own games or select a game from the library’s board game collection. Adult Book Club The Adult Book Club will discuss The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins in April. Copies of the book can be borrowed from the library. Health department and AAA7 to host senior health fair A health fair event designed especially for seniors will be held at the library beginning at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 3. This “Welcome Spring” event, organized by the Area Agency on Aging District 7 (AAA7) and the Gallia County Health Department and co-sponsored by the library, will feature information on vaccines, health screenings and select vaccinations for adults, as well as a falls prevention wellness program demonstration. Adults who receive a flu or COVID -19 vaccination will receive a gift card incentive, and those in attendance will also receive a spring-themed take-home craft kit provided by the library. During the event, the library will also showcase its many programs and services. This event is funded by the U.S. Administration for Community Living through a grant awarded by USAging. James Morrison, retired financial planner, will begin a series of retirement planning workshops beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 3 at the library, followed by workshops on Thursdays, April 10 and 17. Morrison, a U.S. Navy veteran who holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Ohio University, served clients in the region as an advisor and financial planner for over 35 years before his retirement in 2020. During this workshop series, Morrison will discuss saving for retirement, timing your retirement, and answer questions related to Social Security, health insurance, and Medicare, and many other topics. Attend our home inspections event If you are planning to sell or purchase a house, be sure to join us for a Home Inspections 101 program beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6 in the library’s Switzer Room. Chris Farver, CEO and owner of Tri-State Smart Home Solutions, LLC, will be on hand to discuss the value of home inspections before selling or purchasing a home. Farver will discuss who should get a home inspection, what is considered during the home inspection process, the most common deficiencies found in houses during inspections, as well as what can be done with the information gleaned from a home inspection. StoryWalk at the French Art Colony The StoryWalk title for April is I’m Not Missing by Kashelle Gourley and Kylar Hogan. StoryWalk is located on the grounds of the French Art Colony, 530 First Avenue. StoryWalk is a great way for both children and adults to enjoy the great outdoors and great children’s books!
