Bossard Memorial Library ‘Leap Into a Good Book’ Adult Winter Reading begins Jan. 13 The library will host its annual Adult Winter Reading program beginning on January 13 and continuing through April 14, 2025. This year’s theme is “Leap Into a Good Book” and features frog artwork. Anyone age 18 and over with a Bossard Library card is encouraged to sign up for a chance to earn prizes for reading this winter. Participants who read or listen to 10 books will receive a trivet with a Bossard Library logo, while supplies last. In addition, with each book read, participants will earn a ticket for a chance to win one of six themed baskets. Tickets can be placed in each basket’s corresponding bag. Baskets will be located near the library’s main entrance. A maximum of 25 tickets can be earned per person. Winners for each basket will be drawn randomly on April 15. Winners will also receive frog-themed art with each basket. This year’s baskets have themes including “Buckeye Bash,” “Breakfast in Bed,” and “It’s Not Easy Being Green.” Kindles will also be given away in two separate reading -themed baskets. Tickets for books read may be used on as many or as few of the baskets as a participant chooses, so be sure to drop as many tickets as possible into the corresponding bag of your favorite basket! Only books and audiobooks borrowed from the library will count toward prizes in the program. Audiobooks and eBooks borrowed from either hoopla or the Ohio Digital Library (via the Libby app) are also eligible. Books read in conjunction with the Adult Book Club and Civil War Book Club also count toward the program. Magazines and children’s books are not eligible for Adult Winter Reading, but young adult titles can be counted. Youth Services Programs Adult Programs Ages 3-6 Story time will be held at the Gallia Academy High School library, 2855 Centenary Road, Gallipolis, with the wrestling team! Featured books will include Miss Fox’s Class Shapes Up by Eileen Spinelli with illustrations by Anne Vittur Kennedy. Attendees will also get to enjoy games, snacks, and learn wrestling skills with the athletes. Children, ages 3-6, and their parents or caregivers are encouraged to attend. Storytime at GAHS In-B-Tween Club Ages 7-9 Join Jody for January’s first In-B-Tween Club meeting featuring a reading of This Book Is On Fire! by Ron Keres with artwork by Arthur Lin. Attendees will enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches and will get to decorate an apron. The second In-B-Tween Club meeting of the month will feature a reading of I Am Money by Julia Cook and Garrett Gunderson with pictures by Josh Cleland. This meeting will serve as the first “Thinking Money” session with Rachael. The In-BTween Club is for any interested child, ages 7-9, and their parents or caregivers. French City Writers’ Guild Ages 18 and over Both budding and experienced writers are encouraged to stop by the library to attend the monthly meeting of the French City Writers’ Guild. Writers are encouraged to discuss their original works of various genres, including nonfiction, poetry, genre fiction, and drama. Guild meetings are only for those 18 and over. Coloring sheets and coloring gel pens/pencils will be provided or you can bring your own. Bring a friend and enjoy a relaxing coloring session and genial conversation. “Color Me Happy” is only for adults ages 18 and over. No children are permitted. Storytime Ages 3-6 On Tuesday, Jan. 7, storytime will be held at the Gallipolis First Church of God, 1723 State Route 141. On Monday, Jan. 13, storytime will be held at the GAHS library. On Monday, Jan. 27, storytime will resume at the library. Yoga Ages 16 and over Yoga will be held on Jan. 6 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 541 Second Avenue, Gallipolis. On Jan. 13 and Jan. 27, Yoga will be held at the library. There will be no Yoga on Jan. 20. Waiver form required. Pat-a-Cake Lapsit Ages birth-3 Lapsit will be held on Thursday, Jan. 2 and Jan. 9 at the Gallipolis First Church of God, 1723 State Route 141, Gallipolis. Lapsit will resume at the library beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Needlework Circle Ages 12 and over Needlework Circle is held each Wednesday afternoon at the library. Anyone age 12 and over with an interest in any of the fiber arts is welcome and encouraged to attend. ‘Game on!’ Game Day Saturday Ages 12 and over (under 12 with an adult) Bring a friend and stop by the library for Game Day. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Bring your own games or select a game from the library’s board game collection. Attendees are welcome to stay for the entire event or play games as time allows. Trivia Night Ages 13 and over Come out for Trivia Night at the library and compete as an individual or play with your friends to test your knowledge of current events, science, history, pop culture, and more! Trivia night is open to teens, adults, and families with children who are age 13 and over. Light refreshments will be provided.
StoryWalk at the French Art Colony The StoryWalk title for January is Just SNOW Already! by Howard McWilliam. StoryWalk is located on the grounds of the French Art Colony, 530 First Avenue. StoryWalk is a great way for both children and adults to enjoy the great outdoors and great children’s books! Adult Book Club announces 2025 book selections Bossard Library’s Adult Book Club recently selected its featured books for 2025. In the upcoming year, the book club will again read a mixture of fiction and nonfiction titles, including bestselling novels and books on topics related to both world wars. Copies of the book can be borrowed from the library. Digital copies are available from hoopla and the Ohio Digital Library. The Adult Book Club meets at 1 p.m. the last Saturday of each month except for a combined November/December meeting each year. All interested readers are welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information about the Adult Book Club, please contact Lynn at 740.446.7323. Over 10,000 visits have been recorded to “BODY WORLDS: Animal Inside Out” during its time at Bossard Library. This unique exhibit gives visitors the opportunity to view the bones, circulatory, muscular, and organ systems of some of the world’s most spectacular creatures all preserved through the process of plastination. The fourth major exhibit hosted by the library since 2016, “Animal Inside Out” opened on September 28 and will continue through January 4. Following its conclusion, the load-out of the exhibit will take place and programs will return to the library beginning on Saturday, January 11. Several programs had been held offsite during the run of the exhibit, including weekly lapsit and storytime programming, Color Me Happy Adult Coloring, Adult Book Club, Yoga, and Trivia Night. These programs and all regular library programs will return to the library after January 11. Following routine maintenance and clean-up, the library’s meeting room spaces will also be available for use by patrons, groups, and organizations beginning on January 21.
