Pinewood Derby Day at the Library

The 2024 National Library Week theme is "Ready, Set, Library!"  In celebration of National Library Week, the Library encourages school-aged youth, grades K-12, to register for the Library's PInewood Derby Day.  This fun-filled, free event will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to noon.  This inaugural event is open to the public.

No derby car?  No problem!   The Library will provide pre-shaped pinewood derby cars to registered participants.

To register for the Library's Pinewood Derby, please send an email to library@bossardlibrary.org and include the following information:

  • Name of participant

  • Grade

  • Phone Number (please double-check that you enter this correctly, as we may contact you)

  • Name of Parent/Guardian

Registration is limited to the first 75 participants.  Participants must register by the end of day, Sunday, March 24.

Preshaped pinewood derby car kits can be picked up at the Library by registered participants beginning April 1.   The Library will also host a Derby Car prep day on Sunday, April 7 beginning at 1:00 p.m.  So that you can prepare your car for the April 13 race day, stop by the Library to paint, decal, and apply weights to your derby car!   You only need your imagination!

Participants are also welcome to provide their own derby car.  All cars will be weighed to verify they are not over the maximum weight of 5 ounces.  Prizes will be awarded to the winners in various categories.

Immediately following this morning event, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Library will host the official 2024 Scouts' Pinewood Derby, with participation open to area scouts only.  Scouts participating in the official Scouts' Pinewood Derby do not need to register with the Library for Derby Day.  Rather, local scouts should inform their troop leader of their interest in participating.

The public is welcome to view the Scouts’ races.
