Calling all history lovers!
Living History Nights, presented by the Gallipolis Living History Nights Committee, will be at the Bossard Library on July 17-19. The theme for this year's performances is Dreams Take Flight.
Each night a scholar/living historian will assume the role of a pioneer in Aviation/Space Exploration and perform a monologue based on the life of that individual. This will be followed by a Q & A session -- first to the scholar/living historian in character, and then to the scholar/living historian as themselves. Some of the scholars/living historians will be available for a meet and greet after the Q & A session.
Musical performances will be offered each night beginning at 6:15 PM, with each living history performance commencing at 7:00 PM.
On Thursday night, July 17th, Doug Mishler will present an in-character performance as West Virginia native Chuck Yeager, United States Air Force Officer and the first human to break the sound barrier.
On Friday night, July 18th, Sherrie Tolliver will present an in-character performance as West Virginia native Katherine Johnson, mathematician and NASA employee whose biography was told in the film Hidden Figures.
On Saturday night, July 19th, Terry Lynch will present an in-character performance as Ohio native Neil Armstrong, test pilot and astronaut who became the first person to walk on the moon.
These performances are suitable for all ages and are free and open to the public.
Please note that in order to maintain the authenticity of the historical character, some mild language may be used in the course of the performances.
