In the spring of 1910, people in Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Gallipolis, Ohio, were anxiously awaiting the arrival of two things: Halley's Comet in the skies above and professional baseball on the local diamonds.
While the comet's visit provided a few moments of excitement, the Point Pleasant-Gallipolis team provided a summer full of excitement as the team competed with much larger cities for the pennant.
John Wickline chronicles that season in his new book, The (West) Virginia Valley League: The 1910 Season in the Ohio and Kanawha Valleys. His book will be available for purchase following the presentation. The cost is $20.00, and payment may be made by check or cash.
John has spent more than 40 years as a reporter and photographer at newspapers across West Virginia. He has been a member of the Society for Baseball Research since 2000, and his work has been honored by the Ohio Baseball Hall of Fame and the West Virginia Press Association.
