Bossard Library is pleased to introduce Playaway Launchpad tablets for patron checkout.
Playaway Launchpads are designed just for kids and are pre-loaded with high-quality, ad-free apps that are both fun and educational.
Apps are grouped onto Launchpad tablets by subject area, theme, grade level, and age, making it easy for parents and kids to choose a tablet with the content most appealing to them. Every Launchpad is 100% secure, providing hours of interactive learning and play without the risk of exposure to unintended content.
The Launchpad content collection spans subject areas from math and science to critical thinking and creativity, and features themed learning packs including animals, nature, STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics), and others.
A custom designed user interface gives children the opportunity to make every Launchpad experience their own by creating a personal avatar, plus an informational console gives parents and educators feedback about time spent on the tablet.
Launchpad is powered by an Android operating system and features a 7" high-definition touch screen, external speaker, universal audio jack and a durable, protective bumper.
Since these are pre-loaded products, no connectivity or downloading is required for use -- just check the tablet out and start playing. No Internet connection is available or needed on these devices.
At this time, the Library is offering 10 Launchpad tablets in the Pre-Kindergarten to Kindergarten grade category, 10 Launchpad tablets in the Kindergarten to 2nd Grade category, 11 Launchpad tablets in the 3rd Grade to 5th Grade category, and 9 Launchpad tablets in the 5th Grade and up category. These forty launchpads were purchased with funds donated by the Abels family as a memorial to Jean Abels.
In order to borrow the Launchpad, patrons must be 18 (eighteen) years of age or older and have a Bossard Library card in good standing. Patrons must also sign the Library's Launchpad Lending Agreement each time before borrowing a Launchpad. The loan period for the Launchpad is 14 (fourteen) days with no grace period and no renewals.
