September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month! Stop by the library, join the festivities, and get your own library card today.
To celebrate, starting September 1, children ages 4-12 who register for their first library card at Bossard Library will receive a library-branded wallet, while supplies last. This special promotion, in partnership with River City Leather, will provide children a unique way to carry their library card -- the "smartest" card in their wallet.
The library will also commemorate this special month by distributing COSI Connects Kits to families to support youth learning in the community. These children's science boxes, available while supplies last, are filled with five days' worth of themed STEM activities and science experiments. Themes for the kits include energy (grades 4-8), nature (grades K-8), water (grade K-8), and the human body (grades 3-6).
In addition to these kits, the library will also distribute space-themed (grades K-8) COSI Learning Lunchbox Kit (while supplies last) through a collaborative effort between the Ohio Library Council and COSI to help make science, technology, engineering, and math learning opportunities more accessible to children in the library's service area.
PLEASE NOTE: Families may either choose one of the COSI Connect Kits (energy, nature, water, or human body) or the space-themed COSI Learning Lunchbox Kit for their giveaway. So that everyone has a chance to enjoy these kits, we are limiting distribution to 1 kit per family.
Interested in obtaining a card for you or your child/children? Read the guidelines and then stop in at the library to register. The library also continues to offer digital-only library cards for eligible applicants who wish to only access digital content such as eBooks, digital audiobooks, digital magazines, and reference databases. The digital-only library card application is located here.
Since 1987, National Library Card Sign-Up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries nationwide work together in an effort to encourage children and adults to sign up for their own library card.
Registering for your own library card is empowering and it opens the door to worlds of opportunity. Visit Bossard Library, register for a card, and see the many opportunities that libraries have to offer.
